Mabon: The Witch’s Thanksgiving (But With Better Vibes)

Mabon: The Witch’s Thanksgiving (But With Better Vibes)

Ah, Mabon. The autumn equinox. The halfway point between summer and winter, light and dark, iced coffee and hot cider. It’s basically the witch’s version of Thanksgiving (minus the awkward family interactions and plus a whole lot more magic ✨)

Mabon marks a time of balance, gratitude, and harvest. The day and night are equal (cosmic teamwork!) before we tip fully into the darker half of the year. It’s a chance to pause, look around, and say, “Damn, look at everything I’ve grown this year.”

So how do you celebrate without overcomplicating things? Here are some easy rituals and practices for your Mabon mood board:

🍎 Eat Something Seasonal - Apples, squash, pumpkin, bread, wine… If it feels cozy and harvest-y, it counts. Bonus points for baking bread or making apple cider and infusing it with intention.

🕯 Light a Candle (or Three) - Pick colors like gold, orange, red, or brown to honor the turning leaves and the warmth of the season. Let it burn as you focus on balance and gratitude.

🌿 Create a Mini Harvest Altar - Gather leaves, acorns, or seasonal herbs (rosemary, sage, cinnamon are great) and arrange them on a table or shelf. Instant autumn altar.

📖 Write a Gratitude List - But make it witchy. Instead of “job, family, health,” think: “the one friend who always texts me memes, my dog’s weird nose whistle, that time the candle didn’t set off the smoke alarm.”

🍷 Sip With Intention - Whether it’s wine, tea, cider, or Diet Coke (listen, it’s a constant), raise your glass to everything you’ve accomplished and everything still to come.

Mabon reminds us to slow down, savor the in-between, and honor both the light and the dark. It’s not about doing something huge, it’s about small, meaningful acts that anchor you to the season.

So light a candle, eat some carbs, and remember: balance looks different for everyone. Mine just happens to involve equal parts painting, parenting, and panic-shopping for shop inventory.

Happy Mabon, witches. 🍂✨
